Congratulations on the birth of your child, to have your child baptized please contact the parish office at (218)386-1178.
Baptism is a special occasion in the life of the child’s family, and in the life of our Church family.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us:
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons/daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” –CCC 1213
Through Baptism we die to sin and rise with Christ to a new life as sons and daughters of God. During the celebration parents present their child to the Church, give the child a name, testify to the Faith they will share, and promise to be a good example to the child. The role of godparents is to ensure that their godchild is given a Christian upbringing if the parents are no longer able to fulfill that responsibility. Baptism is the first step of a three-step process: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. It is by sharing in the Eucharist that we become full members of Christ’s body, the Church.
